Broken villages is a duo collaborative project by Gugulethu Ndlalani (creative director) and Mpumelelo Buthelezi (visual director). Together, they focus on three chapters- the art of fashion, survival transportation.

"You are what you wear"

This idea is backed up by the fact that this series focuses on self expression through fashion.

Because denim is one of the most common worn materials in the world, broken villages used the material using their artistic expressions as to explain how most individuals express themselves through what they wear. This can also be termed as individuality as this project/ series aims at showing qualities that makes each person different.

"For example the saying you are what we wear ,simply is explained in this series as to explain the fact that most individuals dress on how they feel on that day."- Broken villages.

It is clear that they are carving a path and are here to make a mark in this filed. This will allow people to value and see photographs not just as ordinary pieces, but as art, subsequently allowing for proper culture preservation and art appreciation.
