Charity Kanema's [thatmelanincharlie] skin is as rich as a night full of stars and her posture remains defiant-unshaken like the thunderous Mosi-Oa-Tunya.

She is an Editorial, runway & commercial model who's at the forefront of shaping the face of African Fashion.

Even as she walks, she does so with grace-with purpose. She aims to make sure that the African populace recognizes and embraces their skin.

She got bullied in school, which, sometimes made her cover her skin with long clothing.

In this article/ interview, she shares her experiences & everything in-between.

What do you hope to communicate with your work?

I am hoping that women and young girls feel beautiful and know that they are beautiful despite being too dark skinned [of which there is no such thing]. I also hope that they feel comfortable and embrace their skin.

What does you work stand for?

It basically stands for confidence and comfort. It is more about embracing who we truly are....Africans.

My work is mainly centered around being comfortable in your own skin.

Why did you decide to take on this journey?

Because we do not have a lot of creatives in this country and most of the models we have are pageants....so I thought of doing something different from everyone else.

After all, being different is what makes you unique.

Driven by the ambition and desire to make a notable change, Charity is in a niche group of African individuals that have decided to take up this daunting yet rewarding task.
